We have worked closely with caregivers and assisted living communities to understand the unique interests and capabilities of many seniors. Our activities are adaptable, allowing you to modify them to suit different skill levels and preferences. Most of the activities can incorporate seniors of all levels. If something involves writing or coloring and a senior does not have normal hand dexterity, a caregiver can help them or turn that days activity into a group activity. Your caregivers know your seniors best and will be able to take our suggestions to help your seniors feel engaged in their daily activities.

A Joyful Memory ships a supply box every 6 months that contains basic supplies like paint, paint brushes, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, etc. We also ship a new box each month with all the extra supplies you need to complete activities for that month. The only thing we do not include is anything that is perishable, not easily shipped, or optional. These items are listed on our "Extra Items Needed" sheet that is included in each box so you can easily know when to purchase these ahead of the activity.  This is only done for about 2-4 activities a month and will not total more than an extra $20 per month. Some examples of things we have done in the past is an ice cream social where we provided fun cups, spoons, and decorations and asked the assisted living homes to buy ice cream. Another example is we created a theme day around Shirley Temple and provided a recipe to make a Shirley Temple drink if the home wanted to provide it as an extra activity that day.  

Each month there is one activity for each day included, which varies in length and content. There is anything from creating a card for a loved one using an animal stencil and fun painting technique to watching a tour of a foreign city on YouTube followed by a fun discussion to playing a game of bingo together. All of our activities should take about 30- 60 minutes to complete, but can easily take longer with a creative caregiver who is able to engage with your residents and create a lively discussion and social time centered around our activities. 

Each day you will start your activity by finding the coordinating bag for that day, pulling out the instructions and gathering any needed supplies from the supply box we send. The bag contains all instructions and most extra supplies you need (see "What is included?" above). Some bags will be full of craft supplies while others might have instructions on how to find a specific educational video on YouTube to watch as well as discussion questions.

Each box contains enough supplies for up to 10 residents. We are often asked what to do with extra supplies if an assisted living home has less than ten residents, and we find that the supplies never go to waste! Many times family members come over and like to sit and do a project with their loved ones, especially grandkids! There are also residents who love an activity and want to do more than one, or often times, a caregiver likes to participate in the activity with the residents. 

The effectiveness and success of A Joyful Memory's activity boxes are directly tied to the level of engagement from caregivers. At the heart of every activity is the indispensable role of the caregiver. When caregivers are proactive, involved, and enthusiastic, the product shines, bringing boundless joy and connection to residents. However, without an engaged caregiver, the essence of the experience can be lost, and the full potential of the product might not be realized. Caregivers are the bridge between the activity and the resident, and their active participation is crucial to unlock the true magic of A Joyful Memory.
